EAST ORANGE, N.J. – A Native American Heritage Month celebration was held at the Veterans Affairs New Jersey Health Care System’s East Orange, New Jersey campus November 30.
The event featured representatives from American Indian Nations performing traditional music and dances.
Tony Moon Hawk, a member of the Unkechaug and the Parmunkey Nation, described the unique garments that each of them wore.
“Each nation had different regalia based on what was available to them in the local area,” Hawk said.
The representatives of the Nations performed traditional dances and invited the audience to participate.
Donna Jones, a speech pathologist with VANJHCS, said that she appreciated the event.
“I thought it was very interesting and inclusive,” Jones said.
