About the Program
VA New Jersey Health Care System is accredited by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer (COC) as a comprehensive cancer center. This recognition demonstrates quality and commitment to patients and families who are being diagnosed and treated with cancer. As an accredited comprehensive cancer center, specific cancer related standards that are designated by the COC are maintained, evaluated and approved every three years.
The comprehensive cancer program includes state of the art cancer services:
- Board certified, multi-disciplinary teams that diagnose, recommend, coordinate and provide cancer treatments
- Provides patient access to national and local oncology clinical trials
- Delivers cancer related patient & family education and support services
- Maintains ongoing measurement and improvement of cancer care
- Provides a cancer registry that procures information on specific types, stages, treatment and follow-up of patients with cancer
- Site Specific Cancer Prevention & Screening programs
- Community Outreach programs
- Hospice Services
- Palliative Care
- Survivorship counseling
The multidisciplinary cancer teams are all board certified in their respective specialty. They include Surgical Oncologists, Medical/Hematologists, Radiation Oncologists, Nurse Oncologists and the Tumor Registrar.
