About the Program

We provide both inpatient and outpatient surgical services in a broad range of subspecialties. As a tertiary care hospital, we provide all surgical services except open heart, bariatric surgery, transplant, and neurosurgery. All services contribute Ambulatory Surgery procedures, and patients who require admission usually come to the hospital the day of surgery (Same Day Surgery).

By involving the patient in the decision-making process for select procedures, we make the patient an equal partner in successful outcomes.

Surgical Services are provided by Board Certified or eligible Attendings with special training in their specialty.

• Podiatry

The East Orange Campus has four operating rooms and one cystoscopy suite. Lyons patients as well as patients from the Community Based Outpatient Clinics come to East Orange for their surgery. Open heart, transplant and neurosurgical services are provided by other VA facilities, unless it is an emergency, when patients are transported to the University Hospital.
